My mother and her friend had a business meeting and I was their driver for that day. Before heading to the meeting, we were looking for a place to eat in Quezon City. Most restaurants were still closed since we were on the road quite early. Finally,  we found Luk Foo along Mindanao Avenue and decided to eat there.

What Luk Foo Is

Luk Foo Cantonese Kitchen is a Cantonese-style Chinese restaurant known for its dim sum, roast meats, noodles, and other classic dishes. It offers authentic Cantonese flavor with a touch that appeals to Filipino diners. Luk Foo is a casual dining spot that’s ideal for family gatherings as well as group lunches or dinners.

What We Ordered

My mom’s friend was craving “white noodles” but forgot what they were called. The waiter said it was hofan. Hofan are thick, wide, flat noodles. Luk Foo’s Seafood Hofan (₱570) is stir-fried with bean sprouts. While it wasn’t obvious in the photo, it included squid, shrimp, and fish fillet. My mom and I tried this for the first time and were pleased with its flavorful taste without being too salty. The serving was big; we had a hard time finishing it and ended up taking some home.

We ordered two orders of Chicken Feet  (₱180/order) since one dish only has five pieces. The chicken feet were savory and gelatinous from the skin. The flavor is soy-based with a hint of chili, which pairs well with rice. Their plain rice costs ₱60. It was quite surprising that my mom and her friend ordered this sinful dish, lol.

Lastly, my mom was craving chicken, so we also ordered the Crispy Lemon Chicken (₱560). The lemon sauce wasn’t overpoweringly sour like pure lemon juice; instead, it was more citrusy with a hint of sweetness. Personally, I didn’t like it that much because it leaned on the sweet side. I wasn’t a fan of Chowking’s orange chicken before, so maybe it’s just a personal taste thing, lol. What I did like, though, was how crispy the lemon chicken was.

Verdict

The servers were attentive and able to answer our questions. The place is what you would typically expect from a Chinese restaurant—simple and functional. The food was okay overall, but some items on the menu can be on the pricier side.
