First and foremost, I got my car loan through RCBC. I asked them what car insurance they offered, and they said they’re a partner of Malayan Insurance, a non-life insurance provider.
In this review, I’ll share my personal experience with Malayan Car Insurance, from the sign-up process to filing a claim and renewing my policy. As a first-time car owner, I had no idea what to expect—but Malayan’s quick response time, smooth digital process, and overall service quality made a strong impression. If you’re considering Malayan for your vehicle coverage, this honest review might help you decide if it’s the right fit for you.
Signing Up Process
The sign-up process with Malayan Insurance was simple. They gave me a form to fill out, which the RCBC service manager collected along with my car loan documents. After that, everything was handled via email, which made the process smooth and hassle-free.

Customer Service and Claims Process
It was my first time getting car insurance, and honestly, I had no idea how it worked—until I had to file a claim.
I was impressed by how fast the service was. I contacted them on the same day the incident happened. I submitted the required documents two days later, and the following day, my claim was registered. They also requested a copy of my mother’s driver’s license since she was the one involved in the incident.

- ✅ July 2, 2024 – Incident happened
- ✅ July 4, 2024 – Submitted the requirements
- ✅ July 5, 2024 – Claim registered
After that, all coordination was between the casa (dealer/service center) and Malayan Insurance. I received the LOA (Letter of Authorization) via email 12 days later. The whole process was smooth.
I actually made a separate post on How to Claim Car Insurance for Damage for more details.
Renewal Experience
A year later, Malayan Insurance emailed me a reminder that my policy was about to expire and asked if I wanted to renew. The renewal process was seamless and fully online. The new policy documents were also sent digitally.

Price
As a first-time car owner, I asked a few guy friends who also owned cars. One of them mentioned he also used Malayan Insurance—he said the claims process was fast, but the price might be slightly higher than other providers.
Little did I know that I would end up with the same insurance provider since Malayan is RCBC’s partner. And even more unexpectedly, I got to experience claiming insurance myself—and I can personally say their service was indeed quick. That’s the main reason I decided to renew with them.
I also checked with other insurance companies, but their pricing was generally in the same range as Malayan’s.
My car is a mini SUV, and I paid over ₱22,000 for car insurance in 2024 and over ₱21,000 this year, 2025.
Coverage
The following percentages are based on sample values (₱1,000,000) for easier understanding—not my actual figures.
2024
2025
In 2025, I noticed that the coverage for Own Damage and Theft dropped, reflecting around 7% depreciation. I assume this is based on the depreciated value of the vehicle. I’m not sure if this is the standard formula for car depreciation.
Final Thoughts
I’m not an expert when it comes to car insurance in general, but I hope this gives you a general idea of what to expect in terms of pricing and coverage.
