With plane fares rising due to the high cost of jet fuel here in the Philippines, every moment of a travel trip needs to count. My mom and I recently took a quick 4-day trip to Davao to visit her sick sibling. To make the most of our limited stay, my cousin suggested we do some night sightseeing around the Talomo area.
While driving along, we noticed a spot with rows of parked cars and motorcycles. That was an immediate sign that locals frequent the place — so we decided to check out Vista View Resto.

Surrounded by lush greenery, the elevated location in Talomo provides a cool, comfortable airflow without air conditioning.
The restaurant divides guest seating into two distinct areas:
- Private Nipa Huts (Kubo): Positioned along the edge of the property, these huts deliver the best views of Davao’s city lights and the winding zigzag road below. Staff reserve these tables primarily for larger groups or family gatherings.
- Main Dining Hall: A spacious indoor-outdoor area that features a stage for live band performances on select nights.

Although the entrance appears modest from the main road, the restaurant expands into a spacious open-air compound the moment you walk in.

Restaurants in Davao City offer affordable dining without sacrificing portion size, and Vista View Resto proves no exception. Their shared platters easily feed groups of four to five people.
Adobong Kangkong with Kawali
The pleasant surprise of the night is the Adobong Kangkong with Kawali (₱385). The serving was huge! With the generous topping of crispy lechon kawali, you could easily be satisfied even without additional main dishes. The sauce has a subtle sweetness, making it delicious while keeping the meal somewhat balanced with greens.
Yang Chow Rice Platter
A massive serving for just ₱300! It comes mixed with chopped longganisa or chorizo. While not extraordinary in flavor, it is decent and exceptionally satisfying for a group.
Buttered Chicken
Since my mom loves chicken, ordering Buttered Chicken (₱345) was mandatory. The butter flavor was quite subtle — it tasted more like a good, crispy standard fried chicken, though still enjoyable.
Classic Pork Sisig
My absolute favorite, Sisig (₱300), which turns out to be my cousin’s favorite as well. Their version hits all the standard expectations of a solid, classic sisig without any unexpected twist

- Expect Peak Hour Delays: Because the restaurant is popular among local drivers, riders, and families, food preparation can take longer during weekend dinner rushes.
- Group Size Matters: If you specifically want to sit in the overlooking nipa huts, travel with a larger group or call ahead, as smaller parties are generally seated in the main dining area.
- Nighttime Visits: Visit after sunset to enjoy the cooler temperatures and the full effect of the city light landscape
