It’s been a while since I treated myself to a beauty or wellness session. So, when I received an invite from Aldous to visit Antara Wellness Spa in Manila, I was overjoyed — thrilled at the thought of de-stressing with a relaxing massage. According to research, massage therapy helps reduce stress, anxiety, and chronic back pain. Fortunately (or unfortunately), I have all those concerns, so this treat was truly “sulit” for me.
Antara Wellness Spa, located on the border of Manila and Makati, follows an Indochina-inspired concept, so I wasn’t surprised to be greeted by a praying Buddha statue as I entered the spa. The place is dimly lit, with draping curtains in the waiting area, adding to its serene ambiance.

I had the Antara Signature Massage, and I can say this one is truly special because the masseuse followed a unique routine that I don’t usually experience at other spas. When I asked the masseuse, she explained that the Antara Signature Massage is a combination of Swedish, Thai, and Shiatsu techniques.
Back when I had the luxury of going to the spa regularly, I usually opted for Swedish massage to feel relaxed — it’s just oil and strokes, which explains why I liked it. Thai massage, on the other hand, makes me feel that my muscles have loosened up due to all the stretching, but I often end up feeling tired afterward. Meanwhile, Shiatsu focuses on pressure points.
What I love about the Antara Signature Massage is that it combines all three techniques in one service. To top it off, they gently whipped me with bamboo sticks before the session ended. Oh, and the yellow and green packs are hot packs, which are also included in the Antara Signature Massage.

Four of their seven scents were showed to us for the dead sea salt scrub treatment. More often, the guests choose the strawberry scent. Lavender is also a great choice if the guest wanted to have a more soothing feeling!

It’s amazing that the green water, where my newfound friend had her feet soaked, turned gel-like after a few minutes. Please see the picture below. I can’t explain the details entirely, but as far as I know, it’s a method of detoxification.

Their products are made locally and are saved for the charity. Room and linen perfume, collagen soap, papaya soap, honey oatmeal soap, and papaya tea tree soap below.
