Every day, we always make a choice even in just the simplest things. I am sure that everyone has come to across in their thought if we can have everything all at once just because there are moments when we are feeling indecisive. In real life, that is not too close to achieving but not for Y Café and Bar in Makati.

This coffee shop in Makati has set everything for the needs of the hungry people. Want coffee? Sure they will brew it. Want alcoholic drinks? They will mix it. Want to eat? They will cook it. Lucky me, I was able to try their food menu last July 13 in courtesy of the Foodies Night Out along with other food bloggers.

Y Café is formerly known as VC Café but the café’s theme continuously cling to the 80’s generation where Dragon Ball Z, Doraemon, Ghost Fighter, Sailormoon etc. are what to be seen in the murals. The life-sized Gundam robot welcomes the guests displayed at the entrance.

Y Café is spacious. It has a live band and indoor games that will not surely get the guests bored. There is also a part of the cafe where you can read books or work on your laptop since the place is more peaceful.

After letting the bloggers watch the AVP, Chef Paolo Manlapaz introduced the food which we will be eating.

Pasta

Chicken and Mushroom Pasta

The Chicken and Mushroom Pasta seem overwhelming. Looking at the flat noodles drowned in the sticky white sauce, I got the feeling that this dish will easily get me full. It has button and shiitake mushrooms, chicken breast, and bacon. I liked that it is not too creamy; it was overall good. Oops, let me not forget the freshly grated parmesan cheese adding to the flavor of it!

Spicy Aglio Olio

The Spicy Aglio Olio Pasta is looking humble with close to pale color but that was the magic to it. The taste is exploding in full of flavor sprinkled with bacon bits and parmesan cheese. The spiciness though, I think is not tolerable for people who are not a fan of it.

Mains

Spicy Shrimp and Sausage

Bathing in chipotle sauce, the Spicy Shrimp and Sausage is as good as it sounds. It is just me who is not really a lover of tangy sauce. It has sautéed Hungarian sausage, shrimps, potatoes, and corn on the cob.

Pork Chops Ala Pobre

The Pork Chops Ala Pobre is well-seasoned. It has an unidentified herb that caught my palate and is sure good to pair with garlic rice. I hope that the meat would be much tender, though.

Burger

Y Cheeseburger

The Y Cheeseburger is stunningly huge. It has a 200g pure beef patty to munch. Since we were that many, the bloggers were not able to try the big one but we were given the mini versions of it. As I was eating, observing whether it might be the cheese that is making it salty, but no, it is the patty. Nevertheless, I hope the real size of the Y Cheeseburger is not as salty as we had since it seems that it is good to indulge. It has bacon strips, onion rings, pickles, sautéed mushrooms, tomato, and lettuce! Just imagine.

Y cafe foods

The ambiance of the café, as mentioned, has an 80s vibe where anime and cartoon characters are displayed. The first half of the café has a dim light where the bar is set and so is the band. The inner part of the café is much more conducive to reading or for working since it has brighter lights and silent. The price is very reasonable and their food has a generous serving, I can say it can be served for 2. I am not quite sure with the service since it was an event but since Y Café pretty much caters to what all people need in the city, I will give them a 4.5. They have minimal work to do with the taste so the score is…

Ambiance: 5/5
Price: 4/5
Serving: 5/5
Service: 4.5/5
Taste: 3.5/5
