Getting into a car crash is one of the worst headaches imaginable and getting hit twice through zero fault of your own? Absolute nightmare.
Beyond filing endless insurance claims and making endless follow-up calls, waiting four long months for backordered parts left us completely stranded. But when we finally picked up our keys and drove our car home, we knew our very first trip needed to be a meaningful one.
We packed into the car and set off on a journey of faith, gratitude, and fresh starts: a road trip to Antipolo Cathedral for a car blessing.
Why Everyone Drives to Antipolo for a Vehicle Blessing
If you’ve ever grown up in the Philippines, you know the drill: the moment someone buys a new car (or gets one repaired!), you drive straight up to Antipolo. But why this specific church?
It all traces back to the historic image of Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje (Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage):
- The Miraculous Ocean Crossing: Back in 1626, a dark wooden statue of the Virgin Mary sailed three grueling months from Mexico to Manila aboard the galleon El Almirante. She survived treacherous Pacific storms, shipboard fires, and ocean threats, earning her title as the patroness of safe travels. (Reference: missio.org)
- A Beacon of Piece: During 17th-century naval conflicts and revolts, local devotees turned to her for protection, believing her intercession brought calm to stormy seas and peace to the land.
Now recognized as an official International Shrine, Antipolo Cathedral remains a spiritual home for OFWs, travelers, and daily commuters alike. “Good voyage” isn’t just about road trips—it’s about navigating life’s unexpected bumps and detours!

How to Get to Antipolo Cathedral from Metro Manila
Although I’ve visited Antipolo before (places like Cloud 9), I was always a passenger and knew the route had winding, zigzag roads. Taking the wheel myself was a completely different story, so I carefully planned out our driving route beforehand:
Route 1: Via Marcos Highway & Sumulong Highway (Best for QC / Northern Metro Manila)
- Luzon Avenue & Commonwealth Area: Take Luzon Avenue toward the flyover, skipping Visayas and Tandang Sora Avenues.
- Marcos Highway Merge: Merge onto Marcos Highway and position your vehicle in the middle lanes.
- Turn onto Sumulong Highway: Follow Marcos Highway until you reach the intersection for Sumulong Highway. Turn right onto Sumulong and begin the climb toward Antipolo.
- Approach the Cathedral: Follow Sumulong Highway straight into Antipolo Town Proper. Follow local signage or traffic markers directing you toward P. Oliveros Street or San Jose Street.
Route 2: Via Ortigas Avenue Extension (Best for Pasig, Mandaluyong, & Southern Metro Manila)
- Head east along Ortigas Avenue Extension past Rosario, Pasig, and Cainta Junction.
- Continue straight up TAYTAY-ANTIPOLO Road or Ortigas Avenue Extension as it winds up toward Antipolo City Proper.
- Upon reaching the Y-intersection near the Hinulugang Taktak or circumferential road area, follow the signs leading directly toward Antipolo Church / Town Proper.
How to Get Your Car Blessed at Antipolo Cathedral
Don’t let the parking queues intimidate you! Follow this simple strategy to get in and out smoothly:
- Parking lines move slowly. Drop off a passenger early to head straight to the Oficina De La Catedral to process your blessing fee (donation amount is up to you!) and secure your official receipt.
- Once you’ve parked, drive or walk toward the driveway right beside the Antipolo Cathedral Lounge and Restroom. Look for the ministers in white robes.
- Present your receipt to the minister. You’ll be asked to pop open the hood, trunk, and all side doors so they can sprinkle holy water throughout your ride.

Ending the Day with a Smile
Looking back at those four grueling months of waiting, frustration, and doubt, standing beside our newly blessed car outside the Cathedral felt like a complete weight lifted off my chest. I can’t even begin to express how happy and relieved I am to finally have our ride blessed and protected.
Moving forward, every time I step into the driver’s seat, turn the key, and pull out onto the road, I will always take a quiet moment to pray the prayer to Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. May she watch over us, guide our path, and bring us safely home on every journey ahead.
Here’s to new beginnings, peaceful drives, and trusting the road ahead. Stay safe out there, fellow drivers!
