One day, my friends Jeck and Derek insisted on visiting my father at the hospital. However, since I knew they were really there to check on me, I suggested we meet for a quick dinner at a Japanese restaurant in Quezon City before I took my hospital shift to look after my father.

We found Hokkaido Ramen Santouka — a perfect choice since the weather was quite cool at the time. The receptionists warmly welcomed us and guided us to our table.

Derek ordered the Small Ramen (Shio) and Fried Chicken with Small Rice Bowl Set, priced at ₱510. Naturally, I had to try his food! I’d say the chicken was crispy and well-seasoned. This set was quite filling — a satisfying binge with both noodles and rice in one meal.

Jeck ordered Shoyu Ramen (Soy Sauce flavor) priced at P345, which is a tonkatsu-base broth. Expect it to be sweet and salty. Jeck’s soup is less dense because it’s ramen. Heck! haha.

Meanwhile, I ordered the Shin Aji Ramen Tsukemen (₱360) — a cold noodle dish served with hot Shoyu dipping sauce.

I had heard about this dish before when I visited Mitsuyado Sei-Men. As I was dipping my noodles into the sauce, Derek suggested that I simply pour the sauce over the noodles to make things easier. Lol! He had a point, but I believe we should stick to the traditional Japanese way of eating it. After all, there’s probably a good reason why it’s meant to be enjoyed that way.

I can’t quite recall how our food tasted differently from one another since it happened about a month ago. I can only provide you with a photo, so please bear with me.

That said, their serving size justifies the pricing, as the portions are quite generous. The restaurant’s ambiance resembles the Japanese eateries you’d often see in movies — if you’re into Japanese films, you’ll know what I mean.

However, the waiter who attended to us seemed a bit absent-minded, which was puzzling since the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy when we dined.
