The Fat Seed Cafe + Roastery is named after the journey of turning dreams into reality — with the “seed” symbolizing an idea…an idea that blossomed from the owners’ passion for food and drink. If you find yourself in the area, be sure to check out this café-restaurant at UP Town Center, Quezon City.

Fat Seed Menu

The passion behind The Fat Seed is not only reflected in how the food is presented but also in how they’ve thoughtfully designed their menu. Each section is creatively named to symbolize different parts of a plant:
  • The Root represents appetizers — the starting point of your meal.
  • The Vines refer to pasta dishes.
  • The Leaf highlights sandwiches that feature vegetables.
  • The Branch, the strongest part of the plant, symbolizes the main course — the meal that gives us strength throughout the day.
Wow, what a clever analogy! In a bit, I’ll show you some of the dishes that were presented to us bloggers, proudly representing Team Aldous.

The Food

Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Ube Waffle in Salted Egg Sauce

The Fat Seed offers an all-day breakfast menu, so let’s start with a vibrant and flavorful dish — Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Ube Waffle in Salted Egg Sauce (P325). This colorful meal features pickled red onions, a rich salted egg sauce that pairs perfectly with the crispy buttermilk fried chicken, and bacon-infused maple syrup for the ube waffles. What a delightful way to start the day!

The Fat Seed Signature Porkchop

The next dish we tried was The Fat Seed Signature Porkchop (P395). The creamy deli mustard sauce perfectly balances the flavor of the beef-brined porkchop. However, it was the sweet potato purée that truly stood out to me — it absolutely captured my palate.

Hotate Soy Cream Pasta

Out of all the dishes served, my favorite was the Hotate Soy Cream Pasta. As the name suggests, it’s a Japanese-inspired dish. It features ebiko (roe), nori shreds, hotate (scallops), bonito flakes, and wafu pasta — where the exciting burst of flavors comes from! I absolutely loved it.

I am highly recommending Hotate Soy Cream Pasta where can be found only here at this restaurant in UP Town.

Wagyu Pares

We also got to try the Wagyu Pares (P305), a dish served with fried rice, Shao Xing rice wine, and tender Wagyu beef cubes. The meat was incredibly tender, and the sauce was absolutely delectable.

Purple Haze and Rojito

The owners introduced us to the newest additions to their menu — the Purple Haze, a whiskey sour infused with cranberry that gives the cocktail its vibrant purple hue, and the Rojito, a mojito with a unique twist.

Coffee

Here are the sample pictures of the coffee they offer. I did not try this one because I have a problem with sleeping when I drink coffee at night.

Verdict

The café’s ambiance is inspired by industrial interiors but elevated to a casual fine dining experience through its lighting and aesthetically arranged decorations. The bar at the center adds a touch of glamour to the space. The only drawback I noticed is the limited space, as the café is rectangular in shape. The prices lean toward the higher side, but considering the target market in the area, I’d say they’re reasonable. The servings are well-portioned, and the food is delightful. Lastly, the service is excellent, with staff who approach guests in a warm and friendly manner.
